Evolving from Past Releases

"When I first started doing music, it was mostly hip-hop in English," he shares. "But because I speak so many languages, I felt like something was missing. I couldn’t promote my music fully to my family, friends, and fans overseas. The connection wasn't there."

Emotional and Creative Challenges
No great project comes without challenges, and for Africano, two tracks on the album pushed him harder than the rest.
Track 9, “Overdose,” was emotionally taxing to create. Inspired by a harrowing personal experience where he almost lost a close friend to heroin addiction, the song forced Africano to relive painful memories. "Had I not walked in on her sooner, she might not be here today," he says quietly. The experience left scars on them both — and writing about it demanded a deep emotional toll.
Creatively, Track 3 proved difficult for a different reason: writer’s block. Despite his best efforts, Africano couldn’t produce a verse he felt proud of. Rather than force it, he made the wise decision to let his musical collaborators take the reins on the verses, keeping only his original hook. "Their verses were better than what I came up with," he admits. “I wanted the record to be as strong as possible — even if it meant stepping back.”
Crafting the Sound: Africano’s Process
Africano’s creative process is as meticulous as it is inspired. When he receives an instrumental from a producer — often overseas — he doesn’t rush into writing. Instead, he lets the beat marinate for about a week, listening on repeat, letting images and ideas surface naturally.
“I’ll sit on my balcony, staring at the view, and focus on the first idea that comes to mind,” he explains. From there, he builds the lyrics around that core idea, ensuring that every verse and hook feels cohesive and intentional. Early demos are recorded at home to capture raw energy before final versions are laid down in the studio. Every track undergoes a detailed review process, with multiple rounds of mixing and mastering — even purchasing an extra mastering service at the final distribution stage to ensure the highest quality possible.
Collaboration Across Continents
A key ingredient in AFROFUSION unique sound is the international collaboration at its heart. Africano worked with producers from Africa to capture the authentic spirit of afrobeat and amapiano, later blending those sounds with touches from pop and hip-hop producers stateside.

During the making of Afrofusion, Africano was juggling an immense load: graduating college, working full-time, relocating to a new town, and balancing personal and professional responsibilities. Many artists would buckle under that pressure — but Africano turned those life changes into fuel for his creativity.
"Even with so much on my plate, I didn’t get discouraged," he says. "I knew it would be worth it." The resilience and determination he demonstrated during this period are woven throughout the album, giving it a lived-in authenticity that can’t be faked.
Personal Favorites
While “Overdose” holds a heavy emotional weight for Africano, the opening track, “Dreams,” is equally dear to his heart. “That song basically elaborates my whole experience as an artist — the wins, the losses, the struggles, and the victories,” he explains.
Writing “Dreams” came easily — the instrumental seemed to "speak" to him, guiding the lyrics into existence. The result is a powerful, reflective anthem that sets the tone for the entire project.
What’s Next for Africano
With AFROFUSION now live on streaming platforms, Africano’s focus has shifted to promotion and expansion. First up: marketing the project globally, leveraging both social media and radio to maximize exposure.
