Prophet G: Flipping Rap on Its Head with Satire, Skill, and Storytelling

From the sunny streets of West Palm Beach, Florida, emerges an artist who’s redefining what rap can be. James Maxson, better known as Prophet G, doesn’t just make music—he makes statements. Since starting his musical journey in 2019, Prophet G has been on a mission to challenge stereotypes, break molds, and prove that hip-hop can be as clever as it is catchy.

“When I started in 2019, I had friends who didn’t like rap, and even my parents weren’t fans because of the stigmas around it,” Prophet G recalls. “But I realized rap doesn’t have to be trapped in that box.”

Drawing inspiration from satirical powerhouses like Lil Dicky and Yung Gravy, Prophet G has carved out his own lane—satirical rap that’s both funny and intelligent. His music flips familiar rap tropes upside down, exaggerating them to reveal fresh perspectives. “I’ve always loved satire,” he says. “I take concepts from generic rap and go over the top with them in a way that breaks out of the formula.”

One of his many memorable lines—“I used to think that double shots are single till I saw you”—comes from a real-life misunderstanding about shot glasses, proving his knack for weaving humor and personal stories into his lyrics. “I’ve written so much in the past six years, it’s hard to pick a favorite lyric,” he admits. “But I like that one because it’s silly, real, and still paints a picture.”

Prophet G’s goal is simple yet ambitious: make a living doing what he loves while showing the world that rap can be more than just guns, money, and bravado. His upcoming album, The Vision, is set to be his boldest statement yet. Featuring collaborations with XNtric, Jayowhippindat, and Westside Boogie, the project has been years in the making—and Prophet G couldn’t be more excited.

“I don’t need to be rich,” he says, “but if I can live off my music and keep telling stories, that’s the dream.”
